(Conservative) Central Office has decided that it has no selfish, strategic or economic interest in shoring up its members and organisation in Northern Ireland. This decision sends a very odd message: David Cameron wants to be a 'pro-Union prime minister for the entire United Kingdom' and introduce 'normal politics' here, but not to the extent of fielding his own candidates at European, Westminster and Assembly elections. His decision will appall local Conservatives, but it should also serve as a caution to unionists in general.
