"Terror networks operating in Ulster" and now permitted to supply "volunteers" to serve on the District Policing partnerships after this:
"The motion to allow ex-terrorists into the DPPs, which was approved without a vote in Westminster, brings into force parts of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2003 which could not be brought into effect earlier."
So convicted terrorists are now in a position to oversee the police.
Which Jeffrey Donaldson said the DUP had opposed; not really one of the DUPes’ more successful campaigns then, was it?
Next step? Allowing terrorists, convicted or otherwise, to serve in the PSNI. But according to the ever-present "government-spokeswoman":
"there were no further plans to relax rules which exclude convicted terrorists from entering the police."
"The vetting arrangements with regard to police recruitment are clearly set out in legislation and Government has no plans to alter them," she said.
But when policing powers are "devolved" over to Northern Ireland?
Bearing in mind how realpolitik has won time and time again over decency and morality in the "Peace Process", I wouldn’t bet then against seeing terrorists patroling our streets in PSNI uniforms in the near future...even if Jeffrey and Co "oppose" it.
