AN explosive row has broken out between the two parties in the Assembly Government, with senior Labour sources making a savage attack on the competence of Plaid Cymru leader Ieuan Wyn Jones.

The sources told the Western Mail that Mr Jones, who is both Deputy First Minister and Minister for Economy and Transport, had alienated the business community through his incompetence and lack of responsiveness to their concerns.

But Mr Jones hit back, accusing his Labour critics of gutter politics. He said he had turned around a department that was “out of control, with no leadership, no financial management and no direction”.
