Mr Ciarán Ó Maoláin (Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission) giving evidence to the Stormont "Committee for Justice" this week:
However, in the society that we live in now, by and large, when we talk about the Protestant/Catholic divide, we are also talking about the divide between Britishness and Irishness or those two ethnic elements of identity in our community.
The point that he later goes on to make re "sectarianism" being covered already under the Council of Europe's present definition of racism is a valid one but... there is a divide between "Britishness" (definition?) and "Irishness"(definition?) and there are two ethnic elements of identity in our "community"?
