That's a lot of foie gras...

Puts the duck moat and Willie's bedroom furniture somewhat into perspective:
Two days ago the European Parliament voted in the new commissioners. One day ago Dutch tv-station RTL published, how much the commissioners in the previous team spent on travelling and gifts in 2009.

Chairman Barroso spend 730.000 euro on travel, dinners and gifts, and is the Commission’s biggest spender according to the information obtained by Dutch RTL.
For any of you who can understand Dutch, the original report (pdf) is here. Total receipts for all 27 Commissioners adds up to 4 million euro...in one year! What is perhaps the most damning though is the length of time it took the EU (three months) to provide RTL News with the details and even then there isn't a full breakdown of on what the (our) money was spent.

Are you still in favour of the European Union? Or are you joining me in realising that the EU is just a stitch-up of the people of Europe by their governing elites?

It is and always was a gravy train, a retirement home for fat, past it politicians.

Despite everything that's happened recently I still believe in the concept of British democracy and more specifically our centre of government still being at Westminster. I still believe in the concept of the EU despite the best efforts of its elite to siwtch me off.

Rory,

Good to see you back!
