UUP romp home in Craigavon Council by-election

Jim Allister on the DUP’s tactical withdrawal from the Lurgan ward by-election:
"They didn't have the guts to fight it, and given their present mess, it would have been interesting to see how they would have fared."

"Interesting" is not the word.

Any roads, more positively the seat has been won by the UUP candidate Jo-Anne Dobson with 2,494 votes, a thumping 64% of the votes cast.

Traditional Unionist Voice's David Calvert received 752 votes, Liam Mackle of Sinn Fein got 401 votes while SDLP candidate Pat McDade got 256 votes.

Ms Dobson has been working as an assistant for the Conservative and Unionist MEP, Jim Nicholson and he joined the Conservative Shadow Secretary of State, Owen Patterson, Sir Reg Empey, Health Minister Michael McGimpsey, local MLAs Sam Gardiner and George Savage as well as councillors, members and UUP supporters helping her out on the doorsteps.

Finally, from the lady herself:
"The Ulster Unionist Party has a vision for a better Northern Ireland and, along with our colleagues in the Conservative Party, a vision for a pan-UK unionism which puts Northern Ireland and unionism at the very heart of British politics"
Roll on the General Election, she might have added;)

Incumbent in the metropolis doesn't prevent me from keeping a finger on the pulse!

Glad to hear that the UUP is on the ascendency. Long Live the Conservatives and Unionists!
