Warmonger:
In his attempt to increase the number of Westminster seats held by the SNP from seven to 20, Mr Salmond said he will also try and resurrect the Iraq War as a means of hurting Labour.
Let sleeping wars lie...still this is tactically very sound tactics:
The First Minister said he wants to give his Referendum Bill the maximum possible chance of being passed by MSPs at Holyrood.
This prompted him to delay publishing the legislation, which he had previously indicated would be unveiled last week, on Burns Night.By delaying publication, Mr Salmond hopes the referendum will come before MSPs in the Holyrood chamber at the height of the (General Election) campaign.
The SNP leader has repeatedly argued that voters will punish the other parties at the ballot box if they are denied a say over Scotland’s constitutional future.
Asked why he had delayed unveiling his Bill, the First Minister said: "We made absolutely no secret of the fact that I want to maximise the chances of success of this legislation. That’s what I intend to do."
On whether this was linked to the general election, he reiterated: "I want to maximise the chances of success of the legislation."
Attempt to push it through at the minute and it will be heavily defeated and soon forgotten about; have it as a part of an overall General Election strategy then, at the very least, it will need to be publicly debated beyond the rarified atmosphere of Holyrood. The pro-Union parties could always, of course, call his bluff...

Seems that the SNP have decided to get all Machiavellan lately. The lesson has hit home about just how hard crude politiking works after Glasgow north east. The Libs wobbled but seem to have held the anti-democratic line about not supporting the referendum. So sadly needs must for the the SNP to get their hands dirty.
Remember what they are facing. The biggest selling tabloid the daily record is a labour party spinner. Coming in the category of you had to read it to believe it, they had an article on the economy whereby the recession and lack of money for public spending was blamed on the SNP and Tories. Many a silly gullible bastard will swallow that. Oh and have I mentioned that the Herald, the only newspaper in Scotland not completely anti-SNP or pro-labour has decided to forgo it's principled nuetrality. Well the closer we get to independence the dirtier it seems it is going to get.
Can you really blame wee Eck for getting down and getting his knees a wee bit dirty also?
