UN and Daily Mail conspire to wipe out a part of our British heritage

Cornish and Manx gaelic are now "extinct".
Irish and Scottish gaelic are "definitely endangered".
Welsh and Scots(?) are "unsafe"…

According to the UN and according to the Daily Mail, Irish gaelic is a dialect.
A rather large pinch of salt with this one I think.

I can't say I've ever heard Scots spoken in my life, assuming that 'Scots' is not confused with speaking English in a working class Glaswegian accent...

It could join the linguistic ranks alongside another dodo like Latin (though Latin still has its derivative uses).

DG

Your ignorance is crushing.

I would say that Scots is in danger, though academia has recently turned to use it in it's proper context. So there is hope that the "Speak English properly" brigade will be edumacated;¬). I wouldn't know where to begin wi the likes ae DG though.

Well, the Daily Mail probably regards Ireland, North and South as a provence, or a shire.
