But if the Tories and Labour are both serious about fighting future elections in Northern Ireland is it time for NI Lib Dems and the Alliance Party to formalise our bounds and stop merely living together?
Stephen Glenn, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Linlithgow and Falkirk East in the 2005 General Election and Bangor FC fan argues "yes". I agree with him, although I think he's underestimated the potential of the Conservative/UUP grouping to reach beyond the "traditional" boundaries.
And if it all comes to fruition, how about (as suggested/threatened) Lembit Opik standing in his home constituency of North Down?
