Scottish politicians today called for the Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson to be taken off the air until he apologised for calling Gordon Brown a "one-eyed Scottish idiot".
Lord Foulkes, a former Labour Scottish minister, said he was "outraged" at Clarkson's comments.
"It is an absolute outrage of the worst kind. Disabled people will be up in arms about it, Scottish people will be angry –
The nation's idiots are also reportedly not too happy with being compared to the saviour of the world.
Update
Clarkson has delivered a partial apology:
"In the heat of the moment I made a remark about the Prime Minister's personal appearance for which, upon reflection, I apologise,"
Which leaves the Scots and idiots still offended...

And Scottish idiots double offended. *looks arounds*
This in reality is manna from heaven, simply whilst Clarkson is an egotist of little intellectual authority. His populist views hammer home to us in Scotland that, according to the English we are somehow a lesser being just for being Scots. Another nail in the coffin of the union methinks.
Oneil, honestly just how would the English take to an Irish Unionist being PM? With the UUP/Tory merger it is not outside the realm of probability. Keeping in mind that several polls published when it became likely Brown was about to replace Blair were less than welcoming over Brown's Scottishness.

FFS this is Jeremy Clarkson we're talking about here!!! More seriously though, the apology's a joke and once again the BBC's lack of consistency/backbone's been exposed.

It's a good question, I really don't know. In normal times, I don't think it would be an issue (after all, if you look at the cabinets of the last few decades there's been a few who wouldn't qualify for the WASP label)- it would depend on the prevailing mood re the perceived additional benefits for NI, Scotland and wales acrrueing from the devolved settlement.

Don't underestimate the populist Clarckson. You do realise that his books top the best seller lists on a regular basis. Whilst I will not claim he is the perfect barometer to gauge ordinary English opinion, I can think of no other better suited. The BBC are strangely ignoring his lack of apology to Scottish idiots in general. Something that was noted in even the Scottish Labour news sheet sometimes known as the sunday mail.
Re the Irish Unionist as PM question, it is indeed a good question. One that deserves a better response from someone like yourself who may in the future be involved with the Tories/UUP.
The normal times that you refer to had voters in the south of England rejecting the idea of a Scottish PM as I have reffered to when Brown was a certainty to replace Blair, simply because of his Scottishness. Also re percieved benefits, I thought we were all supposed to be British. There is a heirarchy and you know it. With Scots and Welsh probably just above the Irish but a long way behing the English in our "Britishness"
Really it would take an exceptional Irish politician to overcome this state of affairs.
