The policy of non-organization in Northern Ireland on the part of Labour, in my opinion, contributed to the polarisation of our society. The absence of a British left in the province limited peoples choice of representation and contributed to empowering tribalistic groups rather than those offering 'material' political mandates, Labour decided not to organise in Ireland, I think, in order to undermine the evolution of stable and embedded British institutions, in keeping with the Republican sympathies commonly held in the party. It was a cynical and deliberate attempt to encourage instability.
