Quote of the day

Christine Grahame. Again.:
One wonders if part of the deal in getting the Olympics was the delivery of a GB football team all along, regardless of the cost to our national team and..."

...and I'm walking in a winter paranoia-land.

>>But Labour MP Jim Sheridan said provided there were assurances from Fifa about the future of Scotland’s national team, the GB team should go ahead.

“The decision is ultimately for the footballing authorities, and the SNP should immediately stop playing politics with football.”<<

Classic!

The fact that the SNP are so against a UK team in 2012 confirms that deep down, they know that Scottish Independence is not going to happen anytime soon.

Were they to get independence, FIFA would automatically recognise them as "Scotland" (as they immediately recognised Slovakia and the Czec Republic)and they would have their own team. This fear of the four home nations being amalgamated confirms that they know the UK is thankfully here to stay!!

Why are they even bothering with their planned rederendum in 2010. All taxpayers in the UK have better things for their money to be spent than this charade.

I do believe Mr Sheridan reads my comments-zone;)- Ms Grahame obviously didn't see the contradiction of a politician complaining to FIFA about other politicians interfering...

Ian,
It was a valid point yesterday, no need to repeat it though!

You have got awfy petty these last months ma man. Political intrigue over this matter originates from a certain Billy Britain type in Westminster. Ignoring this whilst petty point scoring over Scottish government imput articulating the stated will of the SFA and public at large is just silly.

Scottish government "inputs articulated will of the SFA", British government is politically interfering...it would be interesting to see if FIFA would interpret differently the two sets of political interference. Anyway, you haven't commented on the original point of the post, did London get the Olympics for the reason Ms Grahame alleged?

This football thing is the sort of petty thing that could boost the SNP.

As Shankley said football is more important than life and death.

Seems like a throw away line to me, although it is very real that many in FIFA would do away with our national teams. Regardless my main point stands, Billy Britain Brown started for his own selfish ends, and now people like you have a cheek to have a go at Scottish Pollies actually standing up for their constituents desires. We would not accept it full stop!
