Assymetrical Amnesia

Good to see another one of my favourite Unionists, Little Ian joining Hain and Wendy Alexander in the hot seat.

At this point, I’ve got to confess a tenuous link with the MLA from North Antrim.
And no, I’m not a "property dealer" nor "investment consultant".

My sister had the misfortune to attend not only the same sixth form, but also "shared" political-studies classes with Ian Jr; her verdict at the time (minus some of the more actionable expletives) was that he was “an arrogant shit”.
His decision then to pursue his studies at Queens, where (according to his official profile) "being a student at a university with a majority Roman Catholic community, he learnt to defend his Protestant and Unionist beliefs", was the major determining factor in the rest of his classmates heading pronto off to universities on the mainland.

Having watched him over the years, the impression I get is of a person not really that intelligent enough to carry off major corruption, but also someone who is arrogant enough to believe that the family name was enough to give him immunity for almost anything amongst the "Protestant and Unionist" voters of North Antrim.

Hopefully that “Protestant and Unionist” electorate will deliver him the election result he deserves next time round.

BreakingNews.ie has Big Ian not contesting the next Westminster elections. Stepping down as party leader must surely follow.

Do you reckon Little Ian will contest the leadership or is it a shoe in for Peter Robinson.

He would be extremely silly if he did, I doubt he'll even get the nomination for N.Antrim to be honest.

Regarding Robinson, Dodds and Donaldson are both more realistic rivals (the fundamentalist wing will collapse post Big Ian), but yes, I think he's most likely to succeed.. I read somewhere that he (Robinson)is more respected than admired by the DUP rank and file, but what will probably swing it towards him is that he has had almost total control of strategy and the top backroom boys are all his team.
