Via The English Democrats site, the latest proposed 2011 Census Form:
If you click on the image above for an enlargement, you'll see in the "nationality" section, citizens are asked to tick whether their "national identity" is:
English, N.Irish, Scottish,Welsh, British, Irish or Other
- fair enough, I've no problem with that; I'd be ticking the "British" box naturally;)
But the next section, detailing "Your ethnic group" includes the following classifications for the "White" section:
English, Other British, Irish, Other...
The use of the "Other British" implies that an "English" ethnic identity is also (unlike the "Irish" classification) a "British" one....so why the need for a sub-classification? If someone feels strongly enough that their "ethnicity" is primarily English (or N.Irish, Scottish or Welsh for that matter) and not British, then they have the right to tick the "Other" box at the end. Why complicate the issue?
