Happy Times Ahead?

A report on devolution (Click on Northern Ireland September 2007 pdf file) due to be issued later this month will warn that the Sinn Fein/DUPe Dream Team is heading for a collusion course. Good.

Whilst serious arguments will occur over such contentious topics such as the 11-plus, public administration reform, the Maze Stadium/Shrine and the Irish Language Act; the main problem is that there's no dough left in the kitty box for all the grandiose plans previously promised by the Toytown "Administration" up at Stormont.

In a shocking development, the Chuckle Brothers and Co. are being required by the UK Exchequer to live within their budgetary constraints.
Goodbye "Peace Dividends", 400 million grand White Elephants and the bloated public-sector. Hallo water-charges and a domestic-rates "regime".

Elliot of the UUP sums it up well with this nice little simile:

It reminds me of a honeymoon couple who went off on holiday without paying any outstanding bills, only to return and face the financial consequences by having to sell the presents.

So, if you'll just excuse me, I'm going to light up a Havanna, grab a nice glass of Bushmills and sit back to watch the whole rotten devolution edifice implode from its inherent contradictions. Looking forward to some great entertainment
