The Little Scotlanders are up to their tricks again:
"But I don't just want to hold the line. I want to ensure we increase the flying of the Scots flag.
"Gordon Brown can wrap himself in the Union flag if he requires that to win votes in the south of England. It's not appropriate in Scotland."
Christine Grahame, who represents South of Scotland, is asking the SNP-run Scottish Executive to make sure it is the Saltire that flies on public buildings north of the border.
Scotland remains, until the Scottish people say otherwise, an integral part of the United Kingdom.
The flag of the United Kingdom is the Union flag, it is therefore 100% "appropriate" that it should fly on public buildings.
If certain people also want to fly their Saltaires, then provided there’s enough flagposts to roll them up, why not? But the priority in each case should be given to the national emblem, not a regional one.

Using your logic, as the UK is a part of the European Union, then it would also be "100% appropriate" that the European flag should be flown over UK public buildings.
If the Scots don't particularly identify with the Union flag, then they should be entitled to fly their own national flag.
No problem with flying the EU flag below the UK one, in fact, I think it already does in many places.
If the Scots don't particularly identify with the Union flag, then they should be entitled to fly their own national flag.
The SNP and their supporters don't indentify with the Union flag; however, a majority of the electorate still voted for pro- Union parties at the last election.
What about the variation of the Union Flag that has St. Andrew's Cross imposed over St. George's Cross? Union or no Union, Scotland is not England, and should not be second to England, especially within her own borders. Anyway, the Saltire is prettier.
