Quote of the day

Cochrane on the post-independence Salmond:
It is possible that a sizeable proportion of the electorate will believe him, even if an administration that continues to make spending promises as grandiose as the SNP at a time of universal belt-tightening must eventually test even the Scottish public's credulity.

And for all his and his party's railing about defence cuts, what on earth would a non-aligned, non-Nato, independent Scotland of five million people, want with two giant aircraft carriers – the biggest ships the Royal Navy has ever had? At £5 billion for the pair, even my arithmetic tells me that's £1,000 for every man, woman and child.

Is this a credible policy for a sensible party or merely another example of Nat nuttiness?
