Scottish ministers have been forced to pay out an additional £500,000 to boost the Homecoming Scotland campaign, in a bid to raise awareness of the event.
The extra cash, allocated last month, represents a 40% increase in the previous marketing budget of £1.25m.
It follows concern expressed by VisitScotland, the national tourism agency, regarding the promotion of the event.Timed to mark the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth, Homecoming 2009 is a £5m campaign aimed to encourage overseas Scots to come "home".
Maybe now they’ll get round to actually advertising it outside Scotland?
