Brits Out in Caerphilly

Anybody seen this leaflet?
A COUNCIL is advising staff not to use the term “British” for fear of upsetting those who consider themselves Welsh, it has emerged.

Guidance issued to employees at Caerphilly Council states that “the idea of ‘British’ implies a false sense of unity”.

The leaflet, compiled in conjunction with the Valleys Race Equality Council, continues: “Many Scots, Welsh and Irish resist being called British and the land denoted by the term contains a wide variety of cultures, languages and religions.”

It also says people from minority ethnic communities should be referred to as “British Asians” or “Chinese British” as “it avoids any suggestion that a person has to choose between them for identity”.

But apparently you do have to choose between having a Welsh or British identity

This was a British Labour policy - it's brilliant that the Unionist Jeff Cuthbert tried to turn it into an 'evil Plaid Cymru scheeme' when it was his own very unionist councilors' policy. Plaid were shell-shocked by the news story about it claiming that it was Plaid's council that passed it - turns out Plaid didn't even care about such things - they're too buisy trying to fix decades of corrupt Labour council rule in the area - and proving succesful too.
