Deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "This is the strongest level of polling support for independence in almost a year - showing major progress since the last poll - reflecting the impressive ratings of the SNP in government.
"The trend is very clear, and shows that people are moving to the independence position as they see the success and credibility of the SNP in government. The National Conversation is leading the constitutional debate, and pulling the other parties in its wake."
The poll in question was the regular one organised by TNS System Three which announced that 40% of Scots favoured independence...

Speaking about the results of the poll to the paper, an SNP spokesman said: "This is a very encouraging poll, which confirms that support for independence and equality for Scotland is extremely strong. And the 15-point gap in the summer of 2007 has halved to just eight points now."
