"True Wales"- fighting for the Union

I have to grit my teeth here and say In all honesty, "True Wales" as a title makes more sense (in terms of garnering the undecided and neutral support) than “Wales for the Union”.
True Wales members chose the name because they believe those wanting Wales to remain a full part of the United Kingdom have been "unfairly categorised as anti-Welsh".

I'd like to wish them all the luck they'll need.

I'm devestated they didn't stick with "Wales for the Union" - the Yes vote would have romped home!

Not sure what to expect from the Tories plus Labour Councillor True Wales. Their initial press release doesn't bode well for them as it was solely dedicated to fighting independence. The referendum has nothing to do with independence and True Wales know that. Trying to fight the issue on that subject seems to be an admission that they can't win the argument on the actual facts.

Who knows though, the last No campaign nearly pulled it off even though they were run by nobodies as well.

This 'True Wales' is a strange movement. They concentrate on linking this referendum with a referendum on independence - as if a yes vote here will lead to independence. There is no link -it's not much more that a referendum to end red tape if anything. In fact, a no vote has more chance of endangering the Union.

Welsh Unionist I am proud to be, however the current situation is a diabolical beurocratic waste of money involving a 2 year process of passing primary legislation (interesting - Wales HAS primary lawmaking powers, True Wales are trying to make out that this is a vote to give them what they already have). A no vote will only keep things as they are and anger more people - not only nationalists but everyone involved in government - look at the fury of the police - they're desperate for change and a no vote will anger them further.

I think true unionists should look at what David Melding is saying and realise that this situation is bad for the union. If the Union is to continue, then it must evolve and give some flexibility and power to the devolved areas - any attempt to constrain increases the friction and bad feeling toward London - polls suggest that people feel 'closer' to their AMs than their MPs and that Cardiff is more important than London. The link between indepedence and devolution is weakening - not a single warning over the past thirty years over 'devolution is the thin end of the wedge' has come true - people here in Wales simply don't believe it, especially young people. We Welsh-Brits have to realise that the future of co-operation and a United Kingdom lays in a flexible model. We have to cut some of the strings to the Assembly, let it govern properly even seriously consider fiscal powers - something working well will dispell any thoughts of independence, something working badly (as the current situation is) will only fan the flames of radical change.

Don't forget, only around 30% of Plaid Cymru members want independence, it's realy not a serious prospect, but those numbers will grow if Wales continues to be frustrated - in these times, it actually needs more power to help people as Westminster inevitably turns inward and looks to protect its own.

True Wales?

A website that contains so much untruths it drives me crazy

A website that shows only the pictures of the remotest places in Wales not showing any form of life

this shows me how these Unionists want Wales to stay: the undeveloped, unconfident and underachieving country that Westminster has shaped wales into.

10% of this stupid Union's poorest areas are in wales despite Wales only representing 4% of the population.

You tell me how the hell has Westminster ever raised a finger to help the people of Wales!

With every generation we get stronger and the Union gets weaker.

I only pray that I will see the day that this oppresive unjustified union will fall, and with it the chains that have kept Wales as one of the poorest areas of Europe will dissapear!

"FE GODWN NI ETO!"

I thought it was rather beautiful actually, but then I'm a bit of a romantic as far as that kind of thing goes.
