LABOUR leadership hopeful David Miliband will hold a referendum on independence if he becomes Prime Minister.
We can reveal that the Foreign Secretary and his supporters have told senior figures in the Scottish party of the plan for a vote on the break-up of the UK.
He hopes to persuade potential backers that the high-risk strategy could call the SNP's bluff.
It would give Labour control of the timing and wording of the vote because the referendum bill would be passed in Westminster.
The SNP's preferred timetable is to have the independence poll in 2011.
The Sunday Mail revealed earlier this year that ex-Scottish Labour leader Wendy Alexander wanted an early vote on quitting the UK.
She called on the SNP to "bring it on" and "to put up or shut up".
But she was forced to drop the referendum Bill plans on the orders of a furious Gordon Brown.
Miliband's camp believe she was right to call for an early vote.
A senior Labour insider said: "David understands the need to be in touch with Scottish politics.
"The debate on a referendum has to be settled. It is overshadowing health, education and crime, issues that the SNP are failing on.
"We believe the vast majority of people don't want Scotland to be a separate state."
A much sounder strategy than that presently being followed by Brown (er..what strategy? "You’re all British but since I’m so preoccupied with my own dire position to let you have a vote on it, you’ll just have take my word for it. In the meantime, here’s a Union-Jack for you to wave on Britain Day...but only if you live in England, obviously.")
It’s time for the Unionist Establishment to take the initiative and the fight to the separatists…a simultaneous UK-wide referendum, each part of the UK deciding on their own individual future within or outside the British nation.

Well here's hoping the Scots vote for independence then.
Do you Unionists have a plan B?
A united Ireland might start looking like a good option if the Scots vote out? What do you reckon?

In the words of someone else whose name I've forgotten...bring it on, we've got nothing to be frightened of a referendum in Scotland, the sooner the better.
Plan B?
What's the Establishment's Plan A do you think? Regarding us plebs on the ground, plan A, B, C is to continue the fight for our nation until the day that it breathes its last breath.

You'll probably be glad to hear that I don't think the Scots are the main worry at the minute. Regarding the "United Ireland" being a "good option", you should really ask the Dublin government and the ROI's population on that one first...
The establishments plan A is sell us all lock stock and barrel to the EU for starters.
It's easier to do that if the UK stays as the UK. So preservation of the union at all costs is central to plan A.
Regarding this nationalist pleb at least*, plan A, B, C is to continue the fight for my nation until the day that it breathes its last breath or I do.
*Lot's of others feel this way.
Thing is when I look at what you want at the British state and government I see nothing that I want to be part of nothing.
It's the bitter end of the Norman empire. It has no imagination, it smells stale and fearful. Look at those who shout loudest about Britain. What a shower! Brown and co. Moral compass my arse.
Then I look at what's happening in England. Legitimisation Sharia courts, civil liberties vanishing, massive unmetered immigration, gangsters everywhere and none more gangsterish than the ever greedy government. Tax Tax Tax. And for what? To waste £40 billion on a replacement for Trident? A seemlingly blank cheque for the EU. To see Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all treated better than the English. The money matters but what really hurts is that the UK is happy to see Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland recognised as nations** - England gets no recognition. We don't even appear on the fucking census.
Worse still the British Government wants to break England up into EU bite-size chunks via the English Regions Project. No democratic mandate for such moves - quite the opposite. But it's still happening drip, drip in a very shady fashion.
Anyway top of the morning to you old bean. What's the weather like?
**Don't know how NI really stands there but you get my drift.

If it were true, the removal of the biggest most euro-sceptic part of the Uk from the equation would make more sense, it is the fear of English public opinion that presently keeps the Euro-federalists from pushing the Uk too far.

If that’s true, then nothing I say will convince you otherwise…but…the Union does not begin and end with the political opportunists of New Labour, it’s only the sad fact that they are the ones making the most noise about it at that minute.

OK. You get an English government tomorrow. Unless you’re planning also to line up all of the present English Mps against the wall, who do you think will be running the country? The same exact people that have delivered what you perceive as the biggest present problems in England

If you weren’t so against the concept of the Uk full-stop, I’d ask you to join the anti-devolutionist struggle. Devolution is the core cause of your problems.

And it’s only England being “regionalised”? It’s happening and it’s happening all over the EU and it ain’t the UK government who are the main instigators. You’ve hit on something there but you’ve let your hatred of Brown and Co blind you to the logical conclusion.

Shite, as usual!
