The fightback begins?

At last, the fightback begins in Wales:
“Granting full lawmaking powers to the Assembly would be a huge step along the rocky road to full independence for Wales, which is what many people in the Yes camp actually want. Make no mistake – independence would drag Wales down to Soviet-style poverty."

Monmouth MP David Davies announcing his plans to launch a cross-party campaign for a "No vote" in the promised, some time in the future, we don't know when, referendum on full lawmaking powers for the National Assembly.

David Davies running the No campaign would be a gift from the gods to the Yes campaign. I expect someone a bit less ridiculed to tell him to move out of the way soon enough.

David Davies wants to run under the slogan "Wales for the Union" -is he mad? All the Yes campaign would have to do would be print a few posters with "Wales for Wales" on them and it's a landslide.

The No campaign's only chance to win this thing is to argue that No is best for Wales, not best for the UK.

Although presumably that message will appeal to at least a section of the country? But I agree that the broadest coalition is more likely to be successful on this.

I'm not saying the Yes will definatly win, but that slogan would do the No campaign no good.

The section of the country who'd agree with that message are the anti-devolutionist who'll vote No anyway. The people the No campaign need to appeal to are those who want what's best for Wales but are undecided whether a Parliament will do that.
