So why is there an "Independence" grouping within PC now- are they not happy with the pace of things?
I understood that Plaid was originally more about defending the Welsh culture and language within the Union rather than aiming for outright independence - and that this split has continued until the present day.
It will be becoming a more explosive issue now though. After the lopsided "Devolution" process the Union has now started to unravel, all of which will be focussing the minds of those people with the wit to understand what is happening.
O'Neill - that's a focus group not yet set up - it's not a grouping within the party arguying something different to the rest of the party as it doesn't just contain specific members.
It's more of a cynical move to discuss independence loudly without doing it officially and scaring off the much desired "valley vote".
wildgoose - Plaid have always been seeking independence, although they had an almighty mess in 1999 when they defined it as "full sovreignty within the European Union" because they were scared of the word "independence".
