There is fresh speculation that Mr Brown will hold his reshuffle in mid-September, presenting a team of fresh faces at Labour’s party conference.
As part of the changes, Mr Brown is said to be prepared to finally merge the departments for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland into one single Department for Nations, Regions and Local Government, closing down the Wales Office and seeing current incumbent Paul Murphy leave the Cabinet.
If we’re going back to the old version of Direct Rule, this is not good enough, I’m afraid.
But I really don’t think we’ll be going back to the old version of Direct Rule- a Northern Irish Grand Committee under the stewardship of, say, Dr Mc Donnell anybody?
