Separatist calenders in Downing Street?

A UK government minister was accused of a "cack-handed" gaffe after suggesting a "Britishness day" on the August Bank Holiday – but failing to realise it falls on different days in Scotland and England.

Liam Byrne, the immigration minister, said the "national day of celebration" – involving street parties, carnivals and sporting events – could help to promote a common British identity.

But the SNP pointed out that the summer Bank holiday falls on 4 August this year in Scotland – but 25 August in the rest of the UK.

Doh!
But this bit is also interesting:
Mr Byrne, tipped as a future Cabinet minister in the next reshuffle, said it would help promote "shared standards" that provide a social glue at a time of high immigration.

Because, of course, all them damned foreigners simply don't have the "same standards" as us you know- a fact they'll soon realise when they see the traditional Brit "Get pissed til you drop... or drop someone else" Bank-Holiday in all its glory.

The British Day Holiday is a mess waiting to happen. They need to abondon the whole thing soon.

Celtic nationalists don;t want it for obvious reasons, British nationalists don't want it because they see a big union jack waving celebration as the opposite of being a reserved Brit!

If the government wants to give us an extra day off, let us choose when we want it. I'd sugest March 1st as a non-biased choice ;-)
