In this particular case, with us being last, it was an ironic statement, but congratulations anyway being able to weave in "reactionary" to a post about the Eurovision Song Contest!
The Today programme this Bank Holiday Monday morning ended with a piece on political voting in the Eurovision Song Contest. It was suggested that we might do better if the UK broke up into its constituent countries and started voting for each other, only for John Humphries to comment that England still wouldn't get any votes.
And the English know it.
Which is why forms are having to be altered because we English are no longer prepared to describe ourselves as "British" and have been switching en masse to "White Other", writing in "English".
It's also interesting to note the speed with which this change of attitude is sweeping through the population.
Either the injustice to England is dealt with at the next General Election or attitudes will harden to such an extent that the Union is finished.
And judging by Cameron's recent performance in which the "plenty of Scottish blood in these veins" leader of the Tory Party who is "going to stand up to the sour Little Englanders" has stated (one again) that the interests of England will be sacrificed in favour of the Union, well, wily wee Alec Salmond must be rubbing his hands with glee.

Nae bother! Better out than in, as the librarian said to my pal after he had let go a rip snorter.

Oh I don't know, I'm sure oneil and a few other as British as Finchley type saddo's would be texting away ferociously. Got to show one's Britishness you know.

Tony,
But that's the whole point- it wouldn't be a British entry in the event of a UK break-up, it'd be an English one.
For purely emotional reasons, I'd be rooting for any country which had the best chance of relegating England, "Ireland", Scotland and wales to the four bottom spots .

I think Cameron's most recent speech is a lot more nuanced than the headline "British till I die" rentaquotes. If I get the time I want to do apost on it or at least put up some leaks to others who've already done so.

I can recognise the hatred for Ireland, even if I don't understand it. But am truly baffled by this statement. You don't suppose your wee country would get an entry do you?

I don't hate Ireland anymore than I hate Britain, Ulster, Europe etc-it is part of my identity.

It would be separation just for the sake of it, UK ends up bottom of Eurovision- who cares? We win (probably) diddly-squat at the Olympics, again, who cares? At least we're doing as a United Kingdom.

Proud to be British.
A growing and increasingly reactionary minority..........surely!

I don't think i've ever been proud to be British. The feeing of attachment to a hollow political warmongering state doesn't really do it for me.
So Britishness begins and end for you with the attachment to a state?
As a matter of interest, do you feel European?
