But what a lot of nonsense this situation is:
The Department for Transport said each nation will run its own scheme, meaning a Welsh pensioner could not use their pass to travel over the border into England, or vice versa.
So, whilst Northern Irish OAPs can uses their free bus-pass in the Republic they still have to pay full fares in Scotland- that's the kind of real-life anomaly that Unionists should be getting their teeth into.

Glad to see England finally getting the bus passes - although from yesterday's TV coverage you'd never know the rest of the UK already had them!

Another one bites the dust; it makes you wonder how a few political heavyweights from the past (Charlie Haughey and Lloyd george are two that immediately spirng to mind) would have coped with the prying eyes of today's media. I don't think they can use them still outside England, that's the whole point, unless I'm completely misreading the report. Someone was telling me however that it is possible for EU OAPS to travel free in any other country in the EU- so English oldies can get free busrides in Bucharest or Sofia but not in Cardiff, Belfast nor Edinburgh!!!

What I was saying was that there was so much confusion about the English bus passes that no-one made it clear whether a London Pensioner could use their bus pass in Yorshire, let alone Dyfed.

Little further investigation (I asked my dad!), a number of EU countries operate free public transport for OAPS- and it is extended to all holding an EU passport.
Well then, since the other countries are paying forit, we can;t really complain can we ;-)
