Quote of the Day

The Comber Cat purring in yesterday’s Newsletter:
Currently in Northern Ireland we have a system of government that has no effective opposition. For the purposes of democracy and the advancement of it in this country, this is totally unviable and unsustainable.

You can probably guess my solution to this inevitable democratic deficit thrown up by the introduction of devolved government in Northern Ireland...but in the meantime, while we wait for that glorious day when the old corrupt charade falls around their ears, I agree with both him and Chekov, time for the Ulster Unionists and the SDLP to show a bit of backbone and for their own long-term good leave this sham of an Executive.

The Tories only really only represent the interests of the southern part of England that is in itself the part of the polity that keeps the whole show on the road financially .

The single biggest risk to the polity that is the UK is that the Tories , in pursuit of narrow electoral advantage, decide to stop paying for the rest of it .

There are no Tory MPs in Scotland or Wales or NI , the Tories have nothing to lose electroally .

They are not so much the National party formerly and officially the Conservative and Unionist Party anymore as the political wing of the City of London and of the Home Counties.

If the bonuses are down in the City over the next few years then expect a chill wind to blow from there.
