In theory, Scots each receive £1,500 more from the Treasury every year than the English, but of course most of this is absorbed by self-serving quangos.

If these were to be abolished, along with the Barnett formula whose subsidy spawned them, Scotland would enjoy true fiscal independence, the English could stop complaining – and there would no longer be any reason to vote SNP.
