"Norway provides an excellent model for Scotland. They secured their independence in the 20th century."
"It’s time Scotland followed the independence example of our nearest neighbours – wealthy Norway and successful Ireland."
"There is no doubt independence will give Scotland the freedom to flourish without London remote control. As Norway has shown, this is clearly the best option for any modern, forward-looking nation."
Unfortunately for Alex, the Norwegians have shown almost zero interest in his amorous advances and have now given him and the SNPers the final, humiliating heave-ho:
"NORWAY is to end formal diplomatic representation in Scotland after more than 50 years, with the loss of half a dozen jobs"
Ha-di-ha....and just like many a teenage spurned lover, the SNPers are rather embarrassing themselves with their reaction the brush off:
"Last night, Angus Robertson, the SNP's foreign affairs spokesman at Westminster, who travelled with Mr Salmond to Oslo last year on a trip aimed at forging closer links with Norway, vowed to fight the "inexplicable" closure."
Scotland really, really lurves you, why don't you love us.....we're going to sqweam and sqweam until you love us too...
As a famous philsopher (Charlie Brown) once said:
"There's nothing like unrequited love to take all the flavor out of a peanut butter sandwich."

I think your response to this story says a lot more about you than it does about the SNP, to be honest.
And you seemed to have concentrated too much on my response and not the story....basically because I forgot to put up the original link!
Now ammended.
Regarding your original comment, yes, yes, you're probably right....but it's not just me finding the whole episode hilarious. The hysterial response "vowing to fight the inexplicable closure"- the SNP now think they can dictate Norway's foreign policy?
Really, their arrogance is unbelievable sometimes.
And if the US were to close their consulate in Belfast and pass all responsibilities to their Dublin embassy, would you laugh similarly?
Funny how this being interpreted by some unionists as a blow to Scottish or more particularly to SNP prestige, rather than as an equal blow to the UK. After all, what does this scaling back of their diplomatic links say about how important the UK as a whole is perceived to be in the world by the Norweigans?
Is it really a blow to the UK? I mean just how important is Norway to Brits?
I think it's funny to see the SNP throwing temper tantrums. Laughing at pathetic posturing from politicians is actually quite funny when they're not your own!
Anonymous,

No, I'd be extremely pissed off, as I would be if the consulate's responsibilities was transferred to any other foreign capital like Paris for example;)....if it was transferred to London however, I'm not sure I'd be that bothered- we live in the modern technical age, other than the visa question (which is not needed for Norway, am I right?) i'm not sure why we need such consulates dotted all over the nation anyway.

No, it's purely a blow to the SNP pride, it's they who've made such a song and danceof their special relationship with Norway. It's not evn that much a blow to the Scottish people or Norwegian expats for the reason i mentioned above. It's

If they were closing their embassy you'd have a point but they're simply rationalising operations, I can't believe they're the first to do so- first to provoke such a political outburst I'll wager though!
Well, I'd be bothered if I were you, whether operations went to Dublin or London. But this whole thing about it being a blow to SNP pride, simply shows up a nasty, parochial side to your unionism.
Anyway, I understand that the story featured quite prominently in Aftenposten yesterday. I freely admit that my Norwegian is less than fluent, but it does suggest that the story is getting more interest in Norway than would support your theory.
