Britishness Only For the Whities?

Prior to last night’s Morgan Stanley Debate, "Can Britishness be Taught" (I’ll post up how it went as soon as I get any details), the Daily Telegraph has issued the results of You Gov survey into the matter.

Amongst the pretty positive results:
More than half of people questioned in a Daily Telegraph poll think Britishness should be taught in schools.

But what is Britishness?

When I have a couple of decades spare, I’ll tell you, suffice to say that I don’t believe it’s in any way connected with ethnic or religious background of those who are fortunate enough to live in the British Nation.
Kevin Colonel Blimp Myers in the other Tele disagrees:
The other day, the Daily Telegraph revealed the outcome of a study into the racial composition of schools in Britain.

Though the results were astounding, they are only part of the issue; yet since they are so very startling, I will present some of them here, just to give you some sense of what is going on in our neighbouring island.

The capital first. Of the school population of outer London, just 45.4% are British and white. The figures for inner London are more incredible: only 21.5% are British and white. In the London suburb of Brent, just 12.7% of pupils are white British: that is, one in eight. The City of London achieves white Britishness of just 18.6%, and Lambeth, 17%. Outside London, in Leicester, it is just over 40%, and in Birmingham just below 42.6%.

Now these are glimpses of the adult British population in 20 years' time so what sense of "Britishness" can possibly survive figures like these
?"

Oh dear, "White British"? "White Britishness" going to be wiped out by all those fuzzy wuzzies, what possible sense of Britishness can possibly survive when all those little "coloured" kiddies grow up?

As was pointed out in the comments in this post, according to the latest data, "white folks" actually have less of a sense of belonging to Britain than their "non-white folks" counterparts:

Whilst feelings of belonging to the neighbourhood differ across ethnic groups, there is only very limited variation in feelings of belonging to Britain by ethnicity.

The exception is the diverse Chinese/other group who are less likely to feel they belong strongly to Britain (72 per cent) than Bangladeshi (91 per cent), Indian (89 per cent), Pakistani (87 per cent), Black Caribbean (85 per cent) and White (84 per cent) people (Figure 7
).

Oh dear Kev, that kind of answers the question posed at the end of your little racist rant, Britishness will survive, but maybe not in quite the "pure" form that you and the likes of the BNP would like; perhaps the next time you meet Ian Wright or Nasser Hussain you can also tell them why they’re not quite as, you know, English or British as their white counterparts?

You don't suppose these "white folk" who feel a less sense of belonging do so because Britain has changed so much since their early British childhood memories or from the stories regaled to them by their white parents and grandparents perhaps.

Oh sure we have economic prosperity now (based on a debt culture) but economic prosperity is no guide to our social happiness is it. Economic prosperity doesn't seem to be able to deliver us crime free streets or bug free hospitals either.

Whilst we might all recover from this unsettling period of uncontrolled, unlimited mass immigration, as at some point it will have to end, it will nevertheless cause massive social problems for us to get over and will of course come at a economist cost to us.

So at what point do we say enough is enough, let's get our house in order and restore social pride in our country before our desires of personal greed

Read about our social history from 50/100/150 years ago and get back to me. Do you know how many people we murdered on a typical London bank-holiday in the late 19th century? Clue, a few more than were done at the Notting Hill Carnival last year.

If Mr Polish Plumber or Ms Estonian Bakeryworker is paying into my social security system, guaranteeing my pension, I’m not going to have too many sleepness nights about them being here.

We’ve never had crime-free streets or bug-free hospitals, even in the good old days. And just to prove that crime ain' just an ethnic thing, I suggest you pay a visits to some of the Uk’s outpost, try Carlisle, Stirling and even Belfast. I’ll guarantee the blokes trying to mug you, glass you, sell you drugs/dodgy women will be 100% white.

OK then, have we gained from the “influx” of migrants to our shores in the last, say, 5 years or not? Be careful, I’ve got the stats;)

I’m already very proud of my nation, thank you very much.
And part of that pride is derived from its diversity ,adaptabiltiy and tolerance.

Again, check your history books, we have been always a country of migrants and we’ve always adapted to the next wave of migrants and guess what?
We’ve always ended up the winners.
