SNP Denounces Jeremy Clarkson as an Anti-Green Heretic

The SNP's Bill Wilson condemned the BBC show for its lack of environmental responsibility, adding: "Clarkson seeks to sabotage any green aspirations the BBC may have."

Is there any bigger crime in modern Britain than being a saboteur of "green aspirations"?

Of course not and I fully expect Mr Clarkson to be languishing in the Scottish equivalent of the Tower before the day is over.

I am confused by this posting. This issue has nothing to do with Scottish independence.

It's true that Bill Wilson is a member of the SNP, but he is a backbencher and he was not speaking on behalf of the SNP but for all of us.

He was right to draw attention to the materialistic consumer culture promoted by our media. Climate change is the most serious issue facing us all. We badly we need a societal change of mindset. Wilson was arguing that the media must assume some responsibility here. You may be educated and mature enough not to be influenced by the 24/7 competitive celebrity/materialism thrust down our throats but children are growing up drenched in it, with no perspective. It cannot be healthy.

On this last point, for an interesting read on the serious psychological damage caused to all of us by our materialistic have-it-now-and-flaunt-it culture I suggest Richard Layard's book "Happiness, the Science of Wellbeing".

Just to clarify, the vast majority of my postings are about the devolution project, I do however occasionally venture outside and have a word about football or naything else which takes my fancy.

I take your point about my posting headline, I'll ammend later. But it's a bit much OTT to say that he is "speaking for all of us".

I'm not enough aware of the full " global-warming" argument to pass an intelligent judgement on it.
I also think Clarkson is a bit of an idiot and his Big Boys & Their Toys programme is profoundly irritating. But in the big scheme of the things, we should be looking to educate children so that they are able to discriminate better what they watch, listen to, read etc. Censorship of prats driving their wee sports cars is not the way to build up such an intelligent debate or indeed influence our future generations in the way you and Wilson would like
