In Plain English...

....yet another nonsense proposal from the government:

All skilled workers from outside the EU will have to learn English before they can enter Britain, the prime minister is expected to confirm.

Why? If they really need the language for their work, then they’ll learn it.
If they don’t need it, then who cares what language they do or do not speak, as long as they do their job properly?

Exemptions will include international footballers signed by Premiership clubs.

Why? They do need to speak English to do their job properly!!

Skilled workers will now be expected to understand English to a standard equal to GCSE grade A to C, it is understood.

Which is a higher level than that attained by nearly 40% of this year’s "native" speakers who took the English Language GCSE.

Might be a better idea working on their "language skills" first, rather than discriminating against those who are actually keen to work here and directly contribute towards the UK’s economic well-being.
