The Assembly has never had democratic legitimacy, it was a bastard organisation from day one.
We're talking about the Welsh Assembly this time; an overharsh assessment?
Not really, especially when you consider:
1.Only 50.1% of the people who had the right to vote in the referendum to set up the Assembly, did so.
2.From that 50.1%, those in favour of an Assembly were 50.3% and those against 49.7%, a winning margin of only 0.6%
3. 75% of the people of Wales did not vote for an Assembly; most countries require between 66-75% of the electorate to vote in favour, before any such fundamental changes are made to the constitution.
Who's representing politically this 75% then?
Certainly not the Welsh Conservatives, who appear to have forgotten the "Unionist" part of their core philosophy.
