Morgan and Plaid Cymru Do A Deal...

So Plaid have plumped for a coalition government with Labour:

Plaid Cymru’s Welsh Assembly group decided today to enter a coalition government with Labour.

If the decision is endorsed by Plaid’s executive and national council, it means Rhodri Morgan, who has been running a minority administration in Cardiff Bay, is safely installed as First Minister.

In a meeting this morning, Plaid’s 15 AMs chose a deal negotiated between their leader Ieuan Wyn Jones and Mr Morgan.

They turned their back on a rainbow coalition drawn up between Plaid, the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives following last month’s inconclusive election.

The Welsh Conservatives are naturally disappointed, although, excuse my naivety, what in earth was a "unionist" (definite small "u") party doing in the first place negotiating with the separatists? Anyway, I think both they (and the unionist cause) will actually gain in the medium term with the return of Morgan as First Minister and Plaid Cymru playing at being statesmen.
