It's all An Bhreatain to me...

When the world's best known web search engine found a translation of "Wales" for its map site, it failed to realise it was in the wrong language.

So Google Maps labelled Wales "An Bhreatain Bheag", the Irish for Wales, which translates as "Little Britain".

The Irish consul-general to Wales, Gearoid McNamara, said he was a "little surprised" to see Irish on the map

"Oops" indeed.

It is!
I wonder though how far back this Irish translation of Wales goes back ie is it the original or just something gaelic speakers have made up to spite their Welsh brethren in the last few years??

O'Neill - it goes much much much further back than the TV show!

Its not a translation.

It also goes back a very long time and reflects what the Welsh orginally called themselves.
